Lady Jags field a very young team this season

Special Report
The Lady Jaguars are 3 and 4 this season as they look to rebuild, largely from the ground up.
“We’re a very young team with one senior, Katie Hiebert, two juniors, Anna Godowns and Graci Rae Smith, six sophomores and four freshmen,” Coach Susan Godowns said Tuesday. “We started off slow, but we have come on strong toward the middle of the season, winning the last two out of three games.”
The Lady Jags had only three returning starters from last season and the outfield is full of new starters.
“The girls are hitting the ball good and we have some good speed on the bases,” the coach said. “Our biggest strength is that we play as a team and are always lifting each other up. There is no I in team.”
The coach said she is proud of her group of girls and the effort they continue to put forth.
“Alison Johnson is playing great at third for her first year in varsity,” Godowns said. “Jaycee Haycraft is a bunter with a lot of speed.”
This year’s power hitters are Alison Johnson, Claire Brett, Anna Godowns and Graci Rae Smith.
