Springfest this weekend

The annual Mitchell Springfest will be held this weekend, April 21 through April 23. It is a longstanding tradition in Mitchell and this year will be coordinated by Amanda Chalker.
On Friday from 6  p.m. to 8 p.m., local firemen will be serving steak plates (tickets must be purchased in advance) with a 7 p.m. auction for miscellaneous items including luggage, Avon baskets, gift certificates to local restaurants, and a television. After the auction, the festival will hold a neon flash run. Registration is $20.
On Saturday the festival will be open all day with around 70 vendors selling food and goods such as woodwork and beauty products. The vendors were coordinated by Matt Swint.
The day will also have entertainment including singing and dancing from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Springfest parade,  coordinated by Connie Kitchens-Jackson, will be held at 3 p.m. It will have guards from Fort Gordon on horseback, a band from Fort Jackson, and many others. There will also be a raffle for a competition grill from Griswell’s Saws and More. Later on in the evening the Ogeechee River Band will play, accompanied by fireworks sponsored by the Augusta University Organ and Tissue Donors Association.
On Sunday there will be a church service held by 26 area churches. It is being coordinated by the Mitchell Methodist preacher, Mary Griswell. A children’s choir will perform.
