Mr. Lorenzo Slim Moss
Mr. Lorenzo Slim Moss of Augusta entered into rest at Trinity Hospital on April 25, 2013.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Stamp Branch Baptist Church, Warrenton, with Rev. Robert Martin as eulogist. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Pryor and Willie A. Jackson; and four sisters, Emma Johnson, Mary Ruth Young, Beaurine Wilkins and Diann Harewood.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Mr. Sylvester “PeeWee” Sims
Mr. Sylvester “PeeWee” Sims entered into rest on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Trinity Hospital, Augusta.

Mr. Sims was born on Aug. 13, 1963, in Jefferson County, to the parentage of the late Mr. Junior A. Sims and Jessie King Sims. He attended the public school system of Jefferson County. Before relocating to Richmond County, he joined Stone Springfield AME Church, Stapleton.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Greenwood Baptist Church, Norwood, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Coleman Hayes Jr. as eulogist and Rev. Lester Woods presiding. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include 10 daughters, Katrina Sims, Amanda Wilcher, Monae Carter, Domonique Lowe, all of Augusta, Bridgette Wilcher, Loveyanne Brown, Nyirah Sims, Bianca Brown, all of Wrens, Jardasia Little of Thomson, and Ronesha Gamble of Louisville; four sons, Martavis Sims, Sylvastian Sims and Dennis Cumming, all of Wrens, and Malachi Harden of Augusta; four sisters, Clara Sims (Tyrone Baker) of Atlanta, Naomie Sims of Wrens, Jessie (Perry) Thomas, Betty (Gary) Brown, all of Stapleton; five brothers, Grady Sims, Ivester Sims, both of Wrens, Luther Hobbs, Rodriquez Hobbs and Wykee Jenkins, all of Augusta; grandfather, George Wicker; aunts, Ree Ethel (John) Davis, Mattie Tremble, Ann Harrison, Patricia (Willie Gene) Simpson, Louise Woods, Mary Alice Doston, Clara Mae (Moses) Heath, Ida Mae Burley, Lizzie Mae Seals, Lucille (Vernon) Swint, Isabella King, Mima Hills; great-great-great-aunt, Essie B. Doston; uncle, Willie Albert Lockhart; 28 grandchildren; godmother, Hattie Nunnally; godbrother, Alex Nelson; godsister, Rosiland Williamson; friends, David Hannah and Otis Hannah, both of Wrens; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Leroy King, Luria Woods, Michael Simpson, Roosevelt Tremble, Benjamin Tremble, Tommie Tremble, Eric Simpson, Phinize King and Otis Hannah.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Mrs. Susie Bell Jordan Swinney
Mrs. Susie Bell Jordan Swinney of Bartow entered into rest on Monday, April 29, 2013, at her residence.

Mrs. Swinney was a native of Washington County, but lived most of her life in Jefferson County. She was the daughter of the late Mitchell Jordan and Susie Bell Nelson Jordan. She married Johnny Evans Swinney. Mrs. Swinney attended the Jefferson County School System and at an early age joined Ebenezer CME Church, now Faith Memorial CME Church, Louisville. She was a member of the Fair and Honest Benevolent Society and was a homemaker.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Faith Memorial CME Church, Louisville. Burial followed in Ebenezer CME Church Cemetery, Bartow.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and nine siblings.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny Evans Swinney of Wadley; sons, Johnny (Barbara) Swinney Jr. of Des Moine, Iowa, Wayne Swinney of Bartow, Virgil (Sandra) Swinney of Swainsboro; daughters, Mae Swinney, Bernice Hayward, both of Bartow, , Susie Swinney, Conley, Doris Swinney of Bartow, Geneva DeLoach of Tulsa, Okla., and Wylene Swinney of Conley; brothers-in-law, Rev. Willie Horace Amerson of High Point, N.C., and Amos Swinney of Antioch, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Vaster Lee Jordan of Louisville; 24 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
