Gordy supports scouts

Dear Editor:

I just read a Chicago Tribune article in The Augusta Chronicle edition of Monday, July 30, concerning several Eagle scouts returning their medals as a protest of the scouts not allowing gays to join the over century old organization.

As a scout, I wish to comment.

Organizations such as the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Brownies have to keep out gays and or lesbians because no young impressionable person should have to fear being accosted by such undesireables.

Parents also should not have to fear placing their child in the care of a leader of such organizations who have a questionable character.

As for Eagle Scouts returning their medals, good riddance. I am reminded of Penn State.

Perversion is a sin and is unBiblical.

The second thing I am reminded of is my late brother Franklin W. Gordy. He had a saying for almost everything. If he were alive to read the item about the Eagle Scouts, he would say, “One monkey don’t stop no show.”

By the way, a grandson of Frank’s is Eagle Scout Zack Gordy. Zack is keeping his medal.

Sincerely,

Bob Gordy
