Mrs. Jennifer Joan Joiner Barlow
Mrs. Jennifer Joan Joiner Barlow, 41, of Matthews entered into rest on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at her residence.

Born to Katie Wilson Joiner and the late Odell Joiner, Mrs. Barlow was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tony Key officiating. Interment followed in the Barlow Family Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband of 23 years, Marc Barlow; daughters, Amanda Ann Barlow-Magner (Robert) and Alexis Nicole Barlow; and brother, Randy Joiner (Nancy).

Pallbearers were Tony Barlow, Jeremiah Bozeman, Casey Bridges, Tyler Bridges, Trey Fowler, Robert Magner, Scotty Prickett and Lee Sidener.

James Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Mr. Kennith W. Cavannaugh Jr.
Mr. Kennith W. Cavanaugh Jr. of Wrens entered into rest on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at Ways Grove Baptist Church, Wrens, with Rev. Jimmy McCullough III presiding and Rev. Thomas Berry as eulogist.

Survivors include his wife, Nechell McMillan Cavanaugh; son, David Elijah of Killeen, Texas; stepdaughter, Elizabeth McMillan; mother, Carrie Oliphant Curtis, Killeen, Texas; father, Kennith W. Cavanaugh Sr., San Jose, Calif.; brother, Anthony Fred Oliphant, Mitchellville, Md.; two sisters, Karen (Carlos) Smith, Killeen, Texas, and Tawaika Lakeisha Majors, Mitchellville, Md.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Mr. Luke “Cool Hand” Gibbons
Funeral services for Mr. Luke “Cool Hand” Gibbons of Louisville were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church, Louisville.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Mr. Thomas C. Huff
Mr. Thomas C. Huff, 75, of Thomson entered into rest on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at the Georgia War Veterans Home.

Mr. Huff was a native of Warren County. He was a retired electrician and farmer. He was an Air Force veteran, a Shriner and a Mason, being a member of the Gibson Lodge. He was a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Reedy Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. John Jenkins officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Doris H. Huff, Thomson; daughter, Angie (DeWayne) Powell, Thomson; son, Douglas Huff, Rincon; and a grandson, Dalton Powell, Thomson.

Pallbearers were Danny Hillman, Jim Leach, David Huff, Kenneth Huff, Paul Rogers and Dennis Robinson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Reedy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

Mr. Willie J. Miller
Mr. Willie J. Miller of Louisville entered into rest on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at his residence.

Mr. Miller was a native of Johnson County but, after serving in the U.S. Air Force he relocated to Jefferson County. He was the son of the now late James Willie Miller and Daisy Bell Darisaw-Wright. He was a member of the Greater St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. He was a foreman for E.A. Mann Construction Company for 37 years and at Dykes Grass and Company until his retirement in 2002. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 271, Louisville, and for many years he worked as Deputy Sheriff during the tenure of Sheriff Zollie Compton. He entered the Air Force in 1954 and later received an honorable discharge. He received an honorable discharge from the Army Reserve National Guard after 23 years of service, retiring on Nov. 1, 1997.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at noon at Greater St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Louisville, with Rev. Isaac Culbreath presiding and Rev. Dr. David Kemp as eulogist. Burial followed in the Jefferson County Memorial Garden, Louisville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and six brothers.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Eloise Brookins Miller of Louisville; son, Rev. Vinson Miller of Louisville; daughters, Karen B. Cotton of Louisville, Kimberly M. Winston of Jacksonville, N.C.; aunt who reared him as her own, Minnie L. Darisaw of Louisville; fathers-in-laws and mothers-in-laws, Deacon Henry Sirmans and Lillian Brookins Sirmans of Lousiville, Willie McGruder and Rosa McGruder of Detroit, Mich.; sisters, Rochell Johnson, Myrtle “Red” Mitchell and Betty Akins of Hollywood, Fla., Myrtle Miller and Mary Miller of Tennille, Lutisha Taylor of Sandersville, Ruby Miller and Agnes (Loyd) Francis of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four cousins that were reared as siblings, Dorothy D. White, Teresa D. Brooks, Annette D. (Leevelton) Williams of Louisville, and Jeannette D. (Darrell) Hickson of Augusta; nine grandchildren, Karencia Cotton of Atlanta, Janay Cotton of Decatur, Ill., Valencia Miller and Cameron Miller of Wadley, Tevin Cotton and Vinson Miller Jr. of Louisville, Tre Styles and Kimbria Styles of Jacksonville, N.C., Venetria Miller of Dublin; great-granddaughter, Kennedy Howard, Decatur, Ill.; goddaughters, Sheronda Heath of Louisville, and Felicia Tennyson of Clarkston, Tenn.; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Henry Lee Nelson
Funeral services for Mr. Henry Lee Nelson of Wrens were held on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Wrens Chapel AME Church at 2 p.m., with Pastor Dorothy Nelson officiating. Burial was in Sugar Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include his companion, Martha Smith; four children, Angela Nelson Ross (Tracey), Ricky Smith (Shandra), Antanette Simmons and Shunda Frazier; and three brothers, Wallace Nelson, John Edward (Mary) Stephens and Cedric Harris.

Mrs. Deborah Eugenia Poston
Mrs. Deborah Eugenia Poston, 58, of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at her residence in Canton.

Mrs. Poston lived most of her life in Augusta. In school, she was a spelling bee winner with English.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Bethel UMC, Gibson, with Rev. Tommy Anderson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her father, Alton Eugene Poston; son, Gernot Ruediger Betts; and grandmother, Kathleen McKenzie.

Survivors include her mother, Martha D. Cobb; children, Jonathon Sanders and Tara E. Cruz (Justin); brother, Anthony Wayne McGee; aunt, Jan Harden; and three grandchildren, Alston Jay Sanders, Brody Kiyler Betts and Isabella Storm Cruz.

Mrs. Ollie Roberts
Mrs. Ollie Roberts of Wrens entered into rest on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Gethesemane Baptist Church, Avera, with Rev. E.C. Climes officiating and Rev. C.W. Stone as eulogist.

Survivors include her children, Marie Rivers (Freddie), Calvin Roberts, Sharon Farmer, Irma Roberts (Charles) and Rachel Roberts (Randy) of Wrens, Dianne Roberts (Harry) of Louisville and Michael (Mary) Roberts of Avera, Valentina (Morris) Hannah Jr. and Katherine (Travis) Owens of Wrens; sister, Mattie Blair of Avera; and two brothers, Sammie Stone, Wrens, and C.W. Dawson, Philadelphia, Pa.
