Mrs. Helen Benefield
Mrs. Helen Benefield of Austell entered into rest on Wednesday, March 30, 2011.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Springfield AME Church, Stapleton, with Rev. Michael Ephraim officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Dwellie Benefield; and daughter, Gwen Benefield, both of Austell. Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Mrs. Joyce Louise Barfield Glisson
Mrs. Joyce Louise Barfield Glisson, 76, of Wrens entered into rest on Friday, April 8, 2011, at Glendale Nursing Home, Wadley.

Born to the late Virgie Lee Massey and the late Charlie B. Barfield, Mrs. Glisson grew up in Wilcox County. After receiving her nursing degree, she moved to Burke County in 1957 and worked in various local hospitals and nursing homes for more than 30 years.

Memorial services were held on Monday, April 11, 2011, at 3 p.m. at James Funeral Home, with Pastor Frankie May officiating.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie B. Glisson; and sister, Josie May Nations of Atlanta.

Survivors include her daughter, Aletha G. Wilson (Emory); brother, James F. Barfield (Tillie) of Seville; sister, Shirley Wilkes (Douglas) of Vienna; 10 grandchildren, Amanda Bazemore, Robert Parker III, Leila Parker (Gordon), Jessica Ledbetter (Richard), Rosa Vaughn, Michelle Norfolk, John Norfolk, Ben Wilson (Megan), Matt Wilson (Barbara), and Adam Wilson; 15 great-grandchildren; and many friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Rd, Augusta, GA 30904.

James Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Mrs. Carolyn Edna Tapley Manley
Mrs. Carolyn Edna Tapley Manley, 84, of Swainsboro entered into rest on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Unihealth Post Acute Care of Swainsboro.

Mrs. Manley, born in Bartow, had lived in Emanuel County all her life. She worked in the dry cleaning business for many years and was a member of Nails Creek Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 13, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home, with Rev. Franklin Sasser officiating. Interment follow in the Brinson Cemetery, with Elder Tommy Rountree officiating.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Solomon and Betsy Scarboro Tapley;

three brothers, Billy Q. Tapley, J.A. Tapley and Herschel Tapley; and two sisters, Alma Nunn and Callie Salter.

Survivors include three daughters, Patsy Millwood Overstreet of Twin City, Sherry Millwood Love (Jimmy) of Soperton, and Martha Millwood Jones (Shorty) of Twin City; five grandchildren, Holly Wimberly, Samuel “Jo Jo” Overstreet, Brandy Canady-Taylor, Monica Millwood Moseley and James Ray “Jamey” Canady; eight great-grandchildren; and step-grandchildren, Jason (Angie) Love, Jennifer (Tripp) Grace and Stewart Love.

Pallbearers were Keith Branch, Mike Tapley, Jeff Tapley, John Tapley, James Canady and Thurman Davis.

Honorary pallbearers were Caretakers of United Hospice, Lakeside Personal Care Home and Unihealth Post Acute Care of Swainsboro.

Memorials may be made to the Brinson Cemetery Association Fund, in care of B. Lewis Brinson, 10400 Cranchester Way, Alpharetta, GA 30022.

Tomlinson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
