JCHS leadership team proud of board’s decision

Dear Editor:

On behalf of the Jefferson County High School Leadership Team, we would like to publicly thank our new Jefferson County School Superintendent, Dr. Molly Howard, for allowing us to have a voice in the selection of our new high school principal. Led by our school council chairman, Lil Easterlin, and other members of the school council, the committee was allowed to ask questions of the finalists and to make a recommendation to Dr. Howard. Although we understood our recommendation was non-binding, the opportunity to ask questions – and hear the responses - that are of concern to us as teachers, parents and community members was indicative of Dr. Howard’s inclusive leadership style and was certainly appreciated by all members of the leadership team.

In addition, while we had the opportunity to interview several very fine candidates for the principal’s position, we unanimously agreed to recommend Mr. Alan Long and are pleased and excited beyond words that he was recommended by Dr. Howard and approved by the members of the Board of Education. The opportunity to review Mr. Long’s resume and discuss with him a wide variety of school and community issues have allowed us to hit the ground running as we begin the 2010-2011 school year.

We ask all members of the community to take every opportunity to meet and get to know Mr. Alan Long and his family as they transition here from north Georgia. We sincerely believe you will be as impressed with his passion for the education of children, his understanding of effective school practices and his proven track record as a school improvement leader as we are.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Hildebrant, Asst. Principal
Barbara Jordan, Asst. Principal
Connie Gay, Instructional Coach
Tish Easterlin, Instructional Coach
Ellen Farmer, Guidance Counselor

Clements supports Handel as Georgia’s next governor

Dear Editor:

If you pay state income tax in Georgia you really need to support Karen Handel as our next governor. She is the only candidate that truly supports eliminating state income tax and replacing it with a flat sales tax, which works very similar to SPLOST. No one would pay any state income tax, which would be replaced by a sales tax meaning that all people purchasing any item from a candy bar to a new car would contribute. This means all illegals, drug dealers, prostitutes, welfare recipients, out-of-staters,etc. will be supplying funds to operate the State of Georgia. If you are one of about 40 percent of the workers in Georgia who actually pay state income tax, you will see your tax burden significantly reduced. This will indeed be one of those rare “Tax Cuts” we have heard of but never received since the George Bush tax cuts that are to expire in a few months. This is the same “flat tax” conservatives have been trying to get passed for the federal taxable income which obviously isn’t going to happen as long as liberals control Washington but we need to do our very best to see this gets done in Georgia and then maybe on the federal level when the “Replacement of their rascals with our rascals” occurs. You do the math, unless you are quite happy paying other people’s share!
