Our hearts have been broken with the loss of my nephew, Dean, but it has been very comforting to see how the community has worked together to help the family recover. The many words of comfort that I have received have been greatly appreciated along with all the donations of items and money for their home. Thank you, dear friends, for all of your support.
Atkinsons say thanks
I am writing to thank all of the citizens of Jefferson County and the surrounding areas who have opened their hearts so graciously to help my sister and her family following their recent tragedy.

Gordy addresses school issues
This letter is directed to the members of the local Board of Education and is meant to attack two ongoing problems.
They are obesity in young school-age youths and financial deficits facing schools locally and nationwide.
If there were recess during the last class of the school day so the schools could have supervised exercise classes for students it would be a helpful move for pupilsí overall health.
All too many youth these days spend too much time staring at TV and computer screens and make poor diet choices.
Trained teachers would rotate supervising the exercise classes. Teachers not needed for the exercise sessions any particular day would be dismissed without pay a class early. Perhaps this plan would cut a few days off furlough time for each teacher during the school year.
