Leon Datron Gilmore
Mr. Leon Datron Gilmore of Wadley died Tuesday, March 13, 2007.

The funeral was March 21 at 2 p.m. at Hudson Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Harden officiating.

Burial was in Hard Shell Cemetery.

Survivors include his parents, Joanne Plummer and Leon Gilmore, Wadley; three sisters, Tawanda Gilmore, Wadley, Marquita (Timothy) Cummings, Augusta, and Stephanie Harmon, Swainsboro; four brothers, Tony Plummer and Tommy Plummer, Wadley, Terrilski (Ravene) Davis, Augusta, and Cynica Harmon, Swainsboro; paternal grandmother, Mary Gilmore, Swainsboro; and several other relatives.

Pallbearers were Elijah Habersham, Willie Woods, Tommy Woods, Randy Floyd and Donald Lewis.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.


Mary Jenkins Higgins
Mrs. Mary Jenkins Higgins of Augusta died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Higgins, a native of Kyger, Ohio, received a bachelors degree from Ohio University and a masters degree from the Inter American University.

She was a retired high school teacher having taught at several local schools including Jackson High School, Richmond Academy and Jefferson County High School. She was a member of the Church of the Atonement Episcopal Church. The funeral was March 24 at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with the Rev. Rick Sanders officiating.

Burial was in Westover Memorial Park.

Survivors include her son, James Higgins, Newnan; a daughter, Garen Livingston, Hartsville, SC; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Jimmy Hodge
Mr. Jimmy Hodge, 64, of Wrens died Monday, March 19, 2007, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Hodge was a U.S. Navy veteran.

The funeral was March 23 at 1 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ben Martin and Roy White officiating.

Burial was in Wrens Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Janee Hodge; three daughters,Lindsey Hodge, Christy Davidson and Denese Due; two sons, Taylor Hodge and Robert Hoffman; two sisters, June Coleman and Dean Isner; seven grandchildren, Jackson Hoffman, Kayla Peck, Logan Peck, Evan Peck, Chase Blair and Brittney Sebourn.

Pallbearers were George Stapleton, Dean Hadden, Judson Boyd, Pete Stapleton, Adam Howard and Wayne Davis Jr.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Lillie Mae Holliman
Mrs. Lillie Mae Holliman of Thomson died Friday, March 16, 2007.

The funeral was March 24 at 4 p.m. at First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Appling, with the Rev. Johnny Few officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Rozell Spillman-Haywood, Bushnell, Fla., and Laura Rolling, Augusta; two sons, Henry Albert Jr. Rolling, Chicago, Ill., and Willie H. Rolling, Thomson; and several grandchildren.

Brank Yvonne Jones
Mr. Brank Yvonne Jones of Wrens died Monday, March 19, 2007.

The funeral was March 24 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Berry officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Y. Jones, Augusta; one grandson, Brian C. Kelly, Augusta; his mother, Mary Lou Jones, Keysville; six brothers, Thomas O. (Pinkie) Jones, Leonard B. (Helen) Jones, Savannah, John J. Jones, Conyers and Bobby (Marcella) Jones, Statesboro; two sisters, Fannie (Richard) Berry and Bernice (Leo) Whitfield, Wrens; and several other relatives.

Edna Virginia Norris
Miss Edna Virginia Norris,80, of Gibson died Monday,March 19, 2007, in the Warrenton Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Miss Norris, a native of Glascock County, was the daughter of the late James Samuel and Sallie Williams Norris.

The funeral was March 21 at 2 p.m. in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Richardson officiating.

Burial was in the Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include one sister, Fannie Belle Johnson, Stapleton; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were G.T. Norris, James Norris, Wayne Norris, Kenneth Norris, Jason Norris and John Alvin Brooks.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Ferman “Jack” Roberts
Mr. Ferman “Jack” Roberts of Thomson died Thursday, March 15, 2007.

The funeral was March 19 at 3:30 p.m. at New Zion AME Church with the Rev. William Wright Jr. officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Roberts; one son, Leon Roberts; two stepsons, James Ervin Roberts and Eldley Roberts, all of Perry, Fla.; three sisters, Juanita Moss, Lucille (Ervin) Kendrick and Nancy (Robert) McNair; three brothers, Austin Roberts, George Willie (Linda) Roberts and Sam Roberts, all of Thomson; two aunts, Georgia Mae Jones and Katrina Roberts, both of Thomson; and several other relatives.

Juanita Greenway Sammons
Mrs. Juanita Greenway Sammons, 79, of Wadley died Friday, March 23, 2007, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mrs. Sammons, a native of Jefferson County, had lived all her life in Wadley.

She was a retired hairdresser and a member of Wadley First United Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Edward Greenway.

The funeral was March 26 at 2 p.m. at Wadley First United Methodist Church with Dr. Larry Sauls officiating.

Burial was in the Wadley Cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Bonita Handy and Jan (Greg) Gaston, Wadley, and Ginger (Albert) Hall, Swainsboro; one son, Bruce (Lynn) Sammons, Martinez; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Horace Harrell, Ronnie Greenway, Randall Greenway, Larry Watkins, Mark Greenway, William Hall and Johnnie Hall.

Memorials may be made to the Wadley First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 36 W. Calhoun St., Wadley, GA 30477.

Elliot Hartwell Stewart
Mr. Elliot Hartwell Stewart, 71, of Hephzibah died Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Stewart was a native of Louisville.

The funeral was March 26 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with the Revs. Charlie Peters and Marion Jay officiating.

Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Survivors include his wife, Fronia Stewart.

Memorials may be made to the Dallas Heights Baptist Church, 2404 Boykin Road, Hephzibah, or the American Heart Association, 1105 Fury’s Lane, Suite D, Augusta, GA 30907.

James A. Williams Sr.
Mr. James A. Williams Sr., 56, of Bartow died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Williams, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of the late Charlie and Mamie Lou Fleming Williams and the widower of the late Mrs. Katie McKinnie Williams.

He attended Jefferson County Public School and was a member of the New Fleming Baptist Church.

He was a certified diesel mechanic and a certified air condition technician.

The funeral was March 24 at 2 p.m. at the New Fleming Baptist Church and Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. C.L. Cason officiating.

Survivors include his children, Demetria (Derrick) Members, Rochester, NY, Rodney (Shelia) McKinnie, Louisville, Kimberly L. Williams, Stone Mountain, and James A. (Kira Jordan) Williams Jr., Wrens; his siblings, Charlie Mae Braddy and Mamie Johnson, Far Rockaway, NY, Evelyn (Jimmy) Flonnory, Ruby (Moses) Armstrong, Diane Blackwell and Barbara (Shannon) Wells, Atlanta, Jean (Hubert) Flonnory, John (Cleathia) Williams, Johnny (Velma) Williams, Bartow, Morris (Joyce) Williams, Swainsboro, and Mattie (Isaiah) Flounory, Louisville; his mother-in-law, Ezra Flournoy, Wadley; aunts, Nonie Morgan, Bartow, and Roberta Gibbons, Calif.; six grandchildren; and several other relatives.
