On February 22, 2007 the Georgia Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing open house concerning the proposed Location and Design of Project EDS-545(29, 30, 31, 32) & BRST-043-1(58), Jefferson County. The hearing will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jefferson County High School Cafeteria located at 1157 Mennonite Church Road, Louisville, GA 30434.

Project EDS-545(29, 30, 31, 32) i s a p r o p o s a l t o w i d e n a n d reconstruct SR 4/US 1 beginning at the Wadley Bypass and ending at SR 88 in Wrens.

R e p r e s e n t a t i v e s f r o m t h e Department of Transportation will be available from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with plans and displays. The public will have an opportunity to attend the public hearing open house at its convenience to ask questions and discuss the project with a Department representative. Relocation assistance will be discussed at the hearing. Members of the Canaan Galilee Baptist Church would also be asked to participate in a informational survey.

There will be no formal presentation.

A court reporter will be available during this time to allow the public an opportunity to make verbal comments about the project. These comments will be included in the transcript of the public hearing open house.

There is wetland involvement on this project. Unavoidable wetland losses would be mitigated by the restoration of existing degraded wetland habitats or creation of new wetlands.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is in need of providing wetland mitigation for their projects. Land for wetland m i t i g a t i o n , i n t h e f o r m o f restoring degraded wetlands; 1.must be relatively near the project (no greater than ten miles);

2.must not be existing wetlands or swamp (potential restoration areas should show signs of being previously ditched or drained or converted to non-wetland use such as agriculture or silvaculture); and,

3.must be easily accessible by local or state roads.

Anyone who has such property and would be willing to sell it to the state for wetland restoration, should send a letter, with a map ( U S G S T o p o g r a p h i c Q u a d Sheet, County road map, or detailed drawing) clearly showing the location of the degraded wetland, to Harvey D.
