Lillian Sams Canady
Mrs. Lillian Sams Canady, 97, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Canady, a native of Dublin, was a resident of Wadley for 60 years. She is the daughter of the late D.F. and Susie Roby Sams. She was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women. She taught school in Laurens County prior to her marriage. She was a member of Wadley United Methodist Church. She was a longtime merchant and owner of Canady’s Dry Goods Store in Wadley. She is preceded in death by her husband, Pliny L. Canady.

The funeral was Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy White and Dr. Larry Sauls officiating. Burial was in the Wadley Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughters, Betty Canady Turk, Snellville, and Frances Canady (Alec) McNeely, Wrens; her brother, Harold D. (Nancy) Sams, Mesa, Ariz.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two nephews and two nieces.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Rachel Anne Atwell Carroll
Mrs. Rachel Anne Atwell Carroll, 76, of Gibson died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at the Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Carroll, a native of Oconee, was the daughter of the late Rev. D.P. and Mary Lula White Atwell.

She is predeceased by her brother, James Cecil Atwell, and her sister, Mary Viola Teston.

A private graveside service was held Dec. 4 at 4 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her niece, Mary Ruth and Jimmy Spence; and her great-nieces, Kelly Evans and Brandy Shelton, all of Thomson.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


James W. Davis Jr.
Mr. James W. Davis Jr., 77, of Orlando, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006.Mr. Davis, a native of Wrightsville, was a graduate of Wrightsville High School and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was retired from Lily Tulip/Sweetheart Cup Company.

He was a former member of the Lions Club in Augusta where he served as president. He received an appointment as a Kentucky Colonel and was a former member and officer of the Southern Paper Trade Association.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Pearl Gibson Davis; brothers, Willie, J.P., Charlie and Johnny Davis; and sisters, Sadie Sammons and Inez Waller.

The funeral is Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. at Family Funeral Care – Hunters Creek in Orlando. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah; one son, Jay Davis, Clermont, Fla.; two daughters,

Sandy Davis, Flagler Beach, Fla., and Tracy Davis, Key Largo, Fla.; three sisters, Jeanette Tanner, Juanita Cofer and Ann Rabun, all of Louisville; three grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family Funeral Care-Hunters Creek, Orlando, was in charge of the arrangements.


Annie Mae McKellar
Ms. Annie Mae McKellar, 59, of Louisville died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta.

Ms. McKellar, a native of Jefferson County, lived most of her life in Louisville.

The funeral was Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. at the Nazarene Church with the Rev. Don Barnes officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Newsome, Bartow; three brothers, Bobby Lawrence, Augusta, Gene Glover, Louisville, and Billy Ray Glover, Jesup; one grandchild, Lauren Newsome, Bartow; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Jamie Corley, Charlie Henderson, Earl Lee McKellar, Tim Cox, Andrew Marsh and Terry Marsh.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Nathaniel Jones
Deacon Nathaniel Jones died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006.

The funeral was Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. at Salter Grove Baptist Church in Bartow with the Rev. Walter Holmes officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his daughter, Ruby (Walter) Harkley, Bartow; one son, Jonathan (Addie) Jones, Bartow; a sister, Myrtice Wilson, Brooklyn, NY; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Walter Harkley Jr., Ralph Hicks, Donald Hicks, Melvin Brookins, Guy Lewis and Willie Brookins.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.


Zelma Raley McCoy
Mrs. Zelma Raley McCoy, 89, of Sandersville died Monday,

Nov. 27, 2006.Mrs. McCoy, a native of Jefferson County, lived most of her life in North Georgia.

She was a homemaker and a member of Providence Baptist Church in Grange.

The funeral was Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church with the Revs. Larry Montgomery and Daniel Hedgepath officiating.

Burial was in the Davisboro Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, James E. McCoy, Louisville; one daughter-in-law, Harriett McCoy, Baxley; three grandsons; one granddaughter; two brothers, Melvin Raley, Gibson, and Elton Raley, Sandersville; one sister, Bernice Shirey, Atlanta; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Spike Jones, Don Black, Robbie English, James McCoy and Jim McAlister.

Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Providence Baptist Church.

Ethel P. McCullough
Mrs. Ethel P. McCullough, 85, of Wadley died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, at Glendale Nursing Home in Wadley.

Mrs. McCullough, a native of Jefferson County, was retired from the Wadley Public Library. She was a member of Wadley United Methodist Church.

The funeral was Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Harrison officiating.

Burial was in the Wadley Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Bill and Pat McCullough, Wadley; two sisters Virginia Hairr, Wadley, and Sara Grimes; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Johnny Hairr, Tony Hairr, Ricky Eskew, Lynard Smith, Kenneth Brown and Lewis Van Dyke.

Anthony L. Roberts
Mr. Anthony L. Roberts of Ft. Pierce, Fla., died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006.

Mr. Roberts, a native of Ft. Pierce, graduated from St. Lucie County High School and worked on various jobs in construction and furniture.

The funeral was Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. at Stone Brothers Funeral Home.

Survivors include his father, J.C. and Beatrice Roberts, Ft. Pierce; Corey Wallace, Ft. Pierce; nine sisters and brothers, Charlie (Charlene) Hilton, Louisville, J.C. Roberts Jr., Adriana Patricia Stevenson, Darlene (Dexter) Johns, Sonja Roberts and Beverly Roberts, Ft. Pierce, Joseph (Sheila) Roberts, Albany, Clifford Roberts, Orlando, Fla., and Denyece Roberts, Tallahassee, Fla.; several aunts and uncles including K.C. Roberts, Avera, and Catherine Roberts, Wrens; and several nieces and nephews.

Stone Brothers Funeral Home, Ft. Pierce, was in charge of the arrangements.
