Mary Clarke Bates
Mrs. Mary Clarke Bates, 83, of Hephzibah died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at Pineview Gardens.

Mrs. Bates, a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late John Bush and Lizzie Williamson Clarke. She worked at Davison’s Department Store for 13 years and was a relief clerk at Gracewood Post Office for 14 years until her retirement. She was a member of Hephzibah Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John R. Bates.

The funeral was Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. at Hephzibah Baptist Church with the Rev. John Beck officiating. Burial was in Burke Memorials Gardens, Waynesboro.

Survivors include four children, Jane Montgomery Partridge, Hephzibah, Leck Montgomery III, Hephzibah, Ted A. Montgomery, Waynesboro, and Ann Bates Brinkman, Augusta; three brothers and three sisters, Louise Anderson, Eben Clarke, Hammond Clarke, Ruby Beck, Graham Clarke and Helen Kennedy; 12 grandchildren; 16 greatgrandchildren and two greatgreat- grandchildren.

Pallbearers were her grandsons.

Memorials may be made to Hephzibah Baptist Church, 2527 State Hwy. 88, Hephzibah, GA 30815.

Lois Dickson
Mrs. Lois Dickson, 88, of Stapleton died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006.

Mrs. Dickson was the daughter of the late Robert McNair and Beatrice Peebles McNair. She was a retired teacher and a member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband Abner “Josh” Dickson.

The funeral was Oct. 11 at 4 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Adrain Burrell and Mary Ann Braswell officiating. Burial was in Stapleton Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Smith Dickson and Thomas Dickson; and three grandchildren, Winston Dickson, John David Dickson and Jenny Dickson.

Pallbearers were Frank Parrish, Tony Kelly, Lanuard Newsome, Derek Newsome, Brad Hadden and Jim Pate.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Anthony Gilmore
Mr. Anthony Gilmore of Wadley died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006.

The funeral was Oct. 10 at 1:30 p.m. at Hudson Mortuary Chapel in Wadley.

Burial was in the Old Bethel Cemetery in Bartow.

Survivors include his mother, Luarina Anderson Gilmore, Wadley; five sisters, Almarene Walker, Louisville, Nancy Gardner, Bartow, Shannon Gilmore, Sandersville, and Gail Spiller and Barbara Gilmore, Wadley; three brothers, Johnny Gilmore, Wadley, Ed Gilmore Jr., Louisville, and Jamie Gilmore, Lyons; and several other relatives.

Pallbearers were Lawrence Gilmore, Terrence Oliver, Randy Gilmore, Randy Green and Eulas Swint.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.


Sanka Mack Jr.
Mrs. Sanka Mack Jr. of Belle Glade, Fla., died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at Glade General Hospital.

Mr. Mack, a native of Jefferson County, worked at Thermo King and joined Jones Grove Baptist Church before relocating to Florida.

The funeral will be Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. at Jones Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Felicia Mack, Louisville; a devoted mate of 34 years, Gracie Green Mack; his sisters, Dorothy Mack, Louisville, and Edith Lambry Bigham, Belle Glade, Fla.; children that he reared, Carolyn Green, Lorteea Scott, Johnny Dent, Annjeanette Parker and Bernice McLiesh; four grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews including Freddie Hill, Louisville, and Bobby Floyd, Fla.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


Elease Hadden Senn
Mrs. Elease Hadden Senn, 86, of North Augusta, SC, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006.

Mrs. Senn, a native of Avera, had made North Augusta her home for the past 60 ears. She was a member of the Crawford Avenue Baptist Church, the Esther Sunday School Class, former president of the Faithful Ones, former president of the Swinging Sixties and had retired from Clearwater Finishing Plant with 46 years of service. She was the wife of the late Mr. Joseph E. Senn and the daughter of the late Hubert and Myrtle Faglier Hadden.

The funeral was Oct. 6 at 3 p.m. at Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home with the Rev. Joey Thompson officiating.

Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Survivors include two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mabel and Albert Willis, Aiken, and Joenette and Buddy Wise, Graniteville; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Frank Harling, Mark Nixon, Jeff Hadden, Jimmy Hadden, Wayne Hadden and Jason Redd.

Memorials may be made to Crawford Avenue Baptist Church, 507 Crawford Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904.

Herschel Thomas
Mr. Herschel Thomas of Wadley died Monday, Oct. 2, 2006.

The funeral was Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. at San Clair Baptist Church with the Rev. Mack Thomas officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Lee Curry Thomas, Wadley; three sisters, Alberta Thomas Bractley, Wadley, Ann Thomas, Atlanta, and Lillie Harrison, Mt. Vernon, NY; two brothers, Harold Jones, Columbus, and Judson Jones, NY; and several other relatives.

Pallbearers were Derrick Thomas, Lionel Bractley, Rufus Thomas, Christopher Johnson, Perry Graves Jr., Perry Graves Sr. and Henry Spivey.

Bobby J. Washington
Mr. Bobby J. Washington, 42, of Augusta died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006.

Mr. Washington, a native of Washington County, lived in Richmond County for the past 9 1/2 years. He was employed by Jennings Logistic.

The funeral will be Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. at Shiloh CME Church and Cemetery in Davisboro.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Washington; his mother, Mary Wicker Washington, Davisboro; his children, Shante’ Grant, Augusta, Khamarris Washington and Keyanni Gibbons, Sandersville; his siblings, Clinton Washinton, Milledgeville, Teresa Gonder, Dublin, and Chalisa Washington, Davisboro; motherin- law, Kay Frances Warthen, Louisville; father-in-law, W.J. Warthen, Augusta; and several other relatives.
