Lou Queen Chavis
Mrs. Lou Queen Chavis, 74, of New York City, N.Y., died Tuesday, March 7, 2006.

Mrs. Chavis was a native of Orangeburg, S.C., and retired from Montgomery Ward.

The funeral was March 13 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Orangeburg. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her mother, Effie Chavis, Orangeburg; children, Ethel (Joe) Vance, Dale City, Va., Deloris (Freeman) Battle, Wrens, and Anthony Chavis, New York; her siblings, Willie Chavis, Bronx, N.Y., Estelle (Fred) Frederick and Daysell Chavis, Orangeburg, and Gladys Chavis, Palm Bay, Fla.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

George Flournoy
Mr. George Flournoy, 67, of Wadley died Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at the Medical College of Georgia.

Mr. Flournoy, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of the late Hues Gibbons and Lula Flournoy. He joined the Ebenezer CME Church at an early age. He worked at Knox Rivers Construction Company for several years before starting his own business.

The funeral was March 11 at 2 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Ebenezer CME Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Perry Price Flournoy, Bartow; his children, George K. (Geneva) Flournoy, Randy (Angie) Flournoy, Chuckie (Cynthia) Flournoy, Pamela Flournoy and Robin Flournoy, Wadley, Steven Flournoy, Tony (Alicteen) Flournoy and Stacey Flournoy, Louisville, and Shannon Flournoy, Bartow; his siblings, Arthur Flournoy, Wadley, and Willie (Dorothy) Flournoy, Louisville; 20 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Zora P. Meadows
Mrs. Zora P. Meadows, 102, of Wadley died Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mrs. Meadows was born in Johnson County and had lived in Wadley for the past 40 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Wadley Baptist Church where she was a member of the Victory Bible Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Massey W. Meadows, her daughter, Pamela Ackridge, and her great-grandson, Jeremy Blake Meadows.

The funeral was March 9 at 2 p.m. at Wadley Baptist Church with the Revs. Tom Harrison and Donald Lumpkin officiating. Burial was in the Wadley Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Donald Meadows, Wadley; a granddaughter, Brandie Akridge Brady, Oak Park; a grandson, Jeremy P. Meadows, Midville; four great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Benjie Leaptrott, David Way, Jimmy Price, Kenny Everette and Ollie Freeman Jr.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Katie Wells Overstreet
Mrs. Katie Wells Overstreet, 82, of Gibson died Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Gibson Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Overstreet was a native of Glascock County and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Graveside services were held March 14 at 1 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery with Layman Lewis Wells officiating.

Survivors include her son, Willie E. Overstreet, Thomson; three daughters, Mary Ann Trotter, Augusta, Bonnie L. Morris, Beech Island, S.C., and Betty Ruth; three brothers, John Willie Wells, Alma, George Wells, Baker, La., and Lewis Wells, Gibson; three sisters, Mary Usry, Gibson, Florrie Arrington, Twin Falls, Idaho, and Rendia Kent, Collinsville, Okla.; and three grandchildren.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Gregory T. Price
Mr. Gregory T. Price, 38, of Gibson died Wednesday, March 8, 2006.

Mr. Price, a native of Richmond County, had lived in Gibson all his life. He was a graduate of Glascock County High School class of 1987. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Sterling Williford, his maternal grandparents, Lester and Ruth Walden, and granddaddy, Harold Price Sr.

The funeral was March 10 at 2 p.m. at Gibson United Methodist Church with the Revs. Griffin Thompson and Bill Seaman. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his son, Jared Caleb Thomas Price; his parents, Paul and Dale Price, Gibson; two brothers, Doug (Lori) Price, Gibson, and Chris (Jessica) Price, Evans; two sisters, Judy Price, Gibson, and Angela (Brent) Coxwell, Gibson; four nephews, Will Price, Lewis Watkins, Lyle Watkins and Austin Coxwell; two nieces, Emily Price and Paige Price; paternal grandmother, Doris Williford.

Pallbearers were Les Walden, Eddie Walden, Jess Reid, Bill May, Lee Griffin, Keith Price, Bryan Bopp and James Hawkins.

Honorary pallbearers were the class of 1987.
